Information. Standards. Research.
The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) works to create a more informed, empowered and efficient book industry. Our broad membership includes trade, education, professional and scholarly publishers, as well as distributors, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers, service providers and libraries.
Within BISG, representatives of member companies rely on our committee structure as a way to discuss and resolve pain points in the book publishing supply chain. The work of our six standing committees is augmented by a dozen or more working groups that use a structured, collaborative approach to address emerging issues.
In partnership with other industry associations, BISG maintains and implements standardized best practices. BISG also develops and shares leading-edge research and information and creates education and events that help our membership and the industry better understand market trends and issues.
Nearly 200 companies are currently members of BISG. Through its committees, events, and publications, BISG connects the people who work at these companies with opportunities to the help the industry run more effectively and efficiently for the benefit of all.
Celebrating 40 years of standards, research and information, BISG was founded in 1975 at the annual conference of the Book Manufacturers Institute. Initially organized to address the need for better research capabilities, BISG continues to evolve to meet the needs of a membership adapting to new and emerging ways published content is produced and sold.
In representing every sector of the book industry, BISG affirms its belief that all industry segments are interdependent and that common problems are best solved through joint effort.
