Through a partnership with the IDPF and the DAISY Consortium, the EPUB 3 Support Grid working group developed and maintains the BISG EPUB 3 Support Grid, which can be found at the EPUBTest.org site. A resource for publishers and reading systems developers, the Support Grid publishes results of tests that illustrate which EPUB 3 features work on the most popular reading systems, apps, devices, and platforms. The results shown on the Support Grid are intended to promote wider and more effective adoption of EPUB 3, the standard for cross-platform eBook functionality.
Working Group Goals
The working group was formed to:
- Maintain and enhance the EPUB 3 Support Grid by testing reading systems and associated tools, such as assistive technology
- Add functionality that can test how reading systems handle CSS issues that make rendering unpredictable
- Provide publishers and reading systems developers with data that will help them improve their ability to deliver a high-quality end-user experience
Why work on the EPUB 3 Support Grid?
The EPUB 3 Support Grid provides two fundamental benefits: it enables publishers to see what EPUB 3 features are properly implemented in reading systems that matter to them, and it provides reading-system developers with information that can help them improve their support for core EPUB 3 features.
What can you expect to see from the working group?
A webinar promoting an update to the EPUB 3 Support Grid
Ongoing testing of reading systems and assistive technologies
An update on a working-group consensus on CSS features to test, followed by development of appropriate tests
