Identification Committee
Share |

BISG's Identification Committee monitors, reviews and develops best practices for the use of identifier standards in the book industry. It also contributes to the development of emerging identification standards and the implementation of new identifiers. The committee is chaired by Phil Madans of Hachette Book Group.

Committee Goals

The committee is currently working to:

  • Develop use cases for the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) standard

  • Review the Revised ISBN User Manual

  • Work with other BISG committees in areas of overlapping interest

Why work on Identification?

Though they are a form of metadata, identifiers provide a unique definition for both domestic and international products, content creators, publishers and the like. These identifiers offer a primary link that crosses systems, supply-chain participants and use cases. The committee works to inform BISG members and the industry about best practices in planning for and using identifiers relevant to the publishing industry.

What can you expect from our work?

  • Initial release of ISNI use cases

  • Update on the revised ISBN user manual
