Rights Committee
Share |

Through its Rights Committee, BISG develops, maintains and advocates for industry-wide best practices designed to support the standardized electronic transmission of a defined set of rights information between trading partners, now and in the future. The committee is chaired by Ashley Mabbitt of John Wiley & Sons.

Committee Goals

The Rights committee works regularly to:

    • Identify the most important problems facing the publishing industry in rights

    • Identify areas of consensus where standards would be valuable.

    Why work on Rights?

Accurately communicating rights information between parties can grow revenue, reduce transaction costs and avoid costly errors. Making rights information more accessible for both internal and external audiences also improves publishers' ability to financially benefit from their intellectual property.

What can you expect from our work?

    • Educate the supply chain in best practices in rights management

    • Conduct webinars, workshops and a rights summits to communication best practices

    • Research and articulate common themes among different players, offering success cases with common themes

    Past Rights Events

The committee has hosted a rights summit to guide BISG's role in addressing issues affecting discovery, management and licensing of publication rights. The summit is summarized in this white paper. Slides from the event are freely available here.
