Many companies today are dealing with multiple language standards, typically using both proprietary and non-proprietary terms. Global distribution requirements are exposing the need to consistently present language metadata for audio, print and digital text, and user interfaces. The book industry has the same language coding issues, with the need to communicate to trading partners about translations, rights, and other information. The Language Metadata Table (LMT), which was originally developed for the broadcast and media industry, and has been adopted by WarnerMedia, Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Lionsgate and many others, adheres to the IETF languages standard and solves language interoperability issues. This informative session explains how the LMT was developed, the current state of the standard, and how it can augment existing book industry standards.
