The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) board of directors has approved the appointment of the following members of the Board as officers for fiscal year 2021:
- Vice Chair: Kathleen Reid, Elsevier
- Treasurer: David Hetherington, knk Software
- Secretary: Kelvin Watson, Broward County Libraries
Officers of BISG serve one-year terms that may be renewed, as is the case with Kathleen Reid. David Hetherington, who previously held the role of Board secretary, replaces Dennis Abboud, Jr. (ReaderLink) as treasurer, after Mr. Abboud retired from his board service at the end of June. Kelvin Watson will serve as secretary for the coming year
Per bylaws, BISG Board chair Andrew Savikas (getAbstract.com) and immediate past chair Maureen McMahon (Kaplan Publishing) serve two year terms through June 2021. The five officers make up the organization’s executive committee.
On the new appointments, BISG Executive Director Brian O’Leary said, “Having had the privilege of working with Kathleen, David, and Kelvin, I remain grateful for their intelligence, creativity, and dedication to improving the book publishing supply chain. Each of them has proven to be a remarkable ally—often behind the scenes—for BISG and our work to create a more informed, empowered, and efficient book industry.”
The BISG board of directors alsoconfirmed Joshua Tallent (Firebrand Technologies) as chair of the steering committee, which convenes BISG committee chairs to provide support and guidance across the organization’s Metadata, Rights, Subject Codes, Supply Chain, and Workflow Committees.
