The BISG ONIX 3.0 Implementation Grid Version 2.0is intended to provide up-to-date information for ONIX data providers and recipients in North America about their trading partners' status and plans for implementing ONIX 3.0, and to serve as an industry resource for anyone interested in tracking the North American market's migration from ONIX 2.1 to ONIX 3.0.  It is developed and maintained by the BISG ONIX 3.0 Implementation Working Group, a subcommittee of BISG's Metadata Committee.

The Grid was created by compiling results from a survey on ONIX 3.0 implementation that was distributed to all BISG industry contacts. Respondents were encouraged to share results publicly (as seen reported in the "Detailed Report by Organization") sheet, but were given the option to keep responses anonymous. The "Aggregate Report (Anonymous)" sheet includes results from all 145 respondents to the survey, including those organizations listed in the first sheet.

The grid was last updated from data collected during a November 2015 survey. It is BISG's intention to update the Grid frequently through further surveys to the industry, in order to keep information as current as possible. The next survey and ONIX Grid is scheduled for the fall of 2016. Recognizing the volatile nature of the information reported, BISG makes no claims that the Grid is completely accurate at any time.

ONIX 3.0

ONIX for Books Version 2.1 was officially sunset on December 31, 2014 and at the time of publication of this Grid, many markets worldwide have begun or completed a migration to ONIX 3.0. ONIX 3.0 is not backwards-compatible with ONIX 2.1. In addition, there are many benefits to using ONIX 3.0 to send and receive book metadata, such as improved functionality for digital products, collections & sets, rights information, and more. For these reasons, BISG acts to support the U.S. industry's migration to ONIX 3.0 through resources like this Grid, regular Metadata Committee meetings, ONIX training and other educational programs.
