Guide to Identifiers - Explanation of Identifiers

Formerly known as the Roadmap of Identifiers, this guide was developed by the BISG Identification Committee as an educational tool for understanding the relationships between key identifiers used throughout all sectors of the publishing industry, and include the various identifiers across the spectrum of intellectual properties—digital, physical and abstract.

In 2023, the Guide to Identifiers was updated to incorporate information from recent developments in the identification space. The new Guide represents the latest assessment of identifiers relevant to book publishing.
